There are many legal issues that should be considered when a loved one is stricken with Alzheimer’s disease. Because the issues are sometimes complex and the regulations vary by state, it may be helpful to contact an elder law attorney for advice and counsel.

GEM is pleased to announce that Jean-Louise Dixon will give an overview of legal issues and answer your questions on May 15, 2012.

Legal and Financial Planning:  Families who have a loved one with dementia should take a look at legal and financial issues—the sooner, the better. Advance planning may enable individuals with dementia to provide input into the decision-making before loss of cognitive abilities prevents them from doing so. In addition, advance planning may relieve some of the burden on caregivers and other family members when important issues arise during the progression of the disease.

Jean-Louise C. Dixon is with the law firm of Dixon & Dixon, practicing with her husband, David in Avon since 1993.  Jean-Louise has been practicing in the areas of estate planning, elder law and real estate for over twenty years.  She is admitted to practice in North Carolina and in Virginia.  She is a member of the Estate Planning, Elder Law and Real Estate Sections of the North Carolina Bar Association as well as a Member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys.  She resides in Buxton with her husband, David and their three sons, Jacob, Noah and Jonah.
