PRESS RELEASE - RIFF TIDES PERFORM ON JAN 29 AT UU MEETING HOUSE

The Riff Tides will perform on January 29 at the Unitarian Universalist Meeting House in Kitty Hawk.

The Riff Tides perform 1950s Rock and Roll music including such classics as Blueberry Hill, Diana and Rock Around the Clock.

Gail Sonnesso, Director at Gem Day Services, formed the band in Spring 2015. "I'm a baby boomer and wanted to remember the happy times of the fifties and sixties and there were no fifties bands on the Outer Banks," she says.

She enlisted the help of her husband, Angelo Sonnesso who plays keyboards and sings vocals. "He's actually a classically trained lyric tenor who studied at Columbia University," Gail explains.

Angelo says he is honored to be able to join his friends and share the joy of music.

They added Andrew Darling who plays bass, Ken Daidone on the drums and Robert Jacobs on the accordion.

Dana Walker, Robert Morris and Kent Zimmerman sing vocals. Kent also emcees for the group. Doug Leal is the sound manager.

"It has been the most fun!" says Dana Walker about performing with the group when she's not working as a hospitalist at Outer Banks Hospital or singing with the Outer Banks Chorus or her church choir at Kitty Hawk United Methodist Church. "Happy music - that when it's playing, it's impossible to sit or stand still! It makes you want to dance and sing along."

See www.facebook.com/obxTheRiffTides for more information about the group.

This concert is part of the Music at the Meeting House series, the congregation's annual fundraising music event, which hosts local artists in a quiet, listening environment. Tickets cost $20. Doors open at 7:00 pm. The performance begins at 7:30 pm. Light hors d'oeuvres, desserts, soft drinks, wine and coffee will be served before the performance and during intermission.

Proceeds help the congregation support community organizations who use the meeting house such as Al-anon, Feline Hope, Jewish Community of the Outer Banks and Weight Watchers.
