If so, you know that it isn't easy to make time for
yourself. Especially if you find it difficult to admit that
you need help or even to consider allowing some one
else to care for your beloved family member. At GEM
Respite Services we understand the challenge of
juggling caregiving, work, family, friends and other
important aspects of daily life. We know that "burnout"
is a very real result of not having time to focus on
yourself.
We like to think of ourselves as your partner in
caregiving. Our goal is to give you the opportunity to
take a break from the demands of your role in order
to relieve stress, restore energy and achieve balance in
your daily life. It is proven that a respite will make you
a better caregiver which in turn will give you and your
loved one a better quality of life. We're dedicated to
providing you with training, support and encourage-
ment to ensure your success as the primary caregiver.
We encourage you to visit us so you can view first
hand the love and dedication of our staff and the
benefits of our program for the participants. Our
services begin at 10:30 am and conclude at 3:30 pm.

The GEM Center
The GEM Center is a specialized non-profit,
on the Outer Banks, that provides day services
for people with dementia. Located at The
Dream Center in Nags Head, we focus on
activity as a meaningful occupation in the lives
of those with memory loss or other cognitive
impairments. Our specially-trained caregivers
create a home-like atmosphere with daily
activities that promote stimulation, recreation,
and companionship for our participants.
