GEM's Lunch & Learn, our caregiver support group, moves to the Baum Senior Center, located at 300 Mustian Street, behind the Kill Devil Hills Post office.

Our first meeting there will be  April 7th from 11:30 – 1pm  in the Arts and Crafts Room. Due to this transition we will not be meeting in March.

Please share with me topics or people that you would like to learn more about.

We are excited to announce that Laura Howard will be teaching Sea Glass Jewelry on Tuesday at 3/3 at 2pm Dare Arts Council.
We would love to see you and we can make  beautiful necklaces. Extra lesson we will make an origami box to keep it in.

I watched the video and that is fabulous. I love the OBX and I love fishing but most of all it makes me so very happy to see all those people get a chance to get outdoors and enjoy that as well. I would very much love to be a vendor and also to volunteer..this looks like something that also will become a yearly event for me and my family.

Just shoot me the volunteer application as well as the vendor application and I will get them right back to you.
I wouldn't miss it for the world.

I will see if my dad wants to come down as well and spend some time...his name is Donnie Wood..he used to own or be part owner of Bissell and associates a surveying company there in Kitty Hawk or KDH..I can't remember. He has been in real estate down there at the OBX for gosh close to 40 years now...he currently lives in Va Beach, but is down there all the time. I also have an aunt that lives in Elizabeth City and that was actually where I was born back in 77 my mom and dad were living in Ocean Acres at the time.... I grew up fishing at Avalon pier with my grandfather and my dad as well as surf fishing down at Oregon Inlet...so I'm very excited to be a part of such an important event.

Thank you for thinking of me for the fishing tournament..I would love nothing better than to be a part of the effort to put that on. Just let me know where I can help..I am always happy to speak to groups of people and just let them know I am here to help them in any way I can and am a resource first.

I could come down the day before and then say for another day or two and help out and meet with folks as they have time or want to talk about whatever questions they may have.

I have truly found where I am meant to be b/c it is always service first and that is where I find my true worth.

Health Screenings on Hatteras

We are pleased to announce that the Nags Head Lions Club in collaboration
with the Fessenden Center and OBX Hospital Health Coach and GEM Day Services
are offering vision screenings, memory screenings and visits with the team
of the Health Coach.
There will also be information about the Community Care Clinic of Dare.
All of these screenings are at no cost, but registration is necessary to
ensure that we can accommodate everyone.

The Area Agency on Aging is the organization mandated under the provisions of the Older American's Act of 1965 to work on behalf of older adults and their caregivers in Camden, Chowan, Currituck, Dare, Gates, Hyde, Pasquotank, Perquimans, Tyrrell and Washington Counties. It is the AAA's mission to empower senior adults to enhance their quality of life through training, education, mediation, advocacy and coordination of services.

Family Caregiver Support Program- The National Family Caregiver Support Program was established to help family and informal caregivers care for their loved ones at home for as long as possible. FSCP helps caregivers by providing information to connect them with the right resources; counseling, support groups, and education; respite (short term relief); and short term or one time only services.

Join us for lunch on your own and have an opportunity to learn about these programs from Lynne in an informal atmosphere.
