Latino faces
Currently anti-immigrant sentiment seems to be on the rise in the United States, and Latinos are feeling some of the strongest effects of this backlash. It is essential that the wider community has opportunities to gain a greater understanding of who these new Latino immigrants are and to examine the economic and social realities that drive their migration to the United States and to North Carolina.  From, Working Films, Wilmington, NC,  a national, nonprofit organization available to all independent filmmakers and community organizers

Lunafest
April 15, Wednesday 7 pm, sponsored by  Dare County Arts Council, Ticket Price: $10.00, at Kelly's Outer Banks Restaurant & Tavern

LUNAFEST was established in 2000 by LUNA, the makers of the Whole Nutrition Bar for Women, to simultaneously promote women filmmakers, raise awareness for women's issues, and support worthy women's nonprofit organizations throughout the U.S. and Canada.

LUNAFEST is completely funded by LUNA and run by a small, dedicated group of LUNA employees. 100 percent of all proceeds are donated to charity - 15 percent to the Breast Cancer Fund and the remaining 85 percent of proceeds go directly back to hosting community organizations.

Filled with stories of reflection and whimsy, hope and humor, grace and perseverance, LUNAFEST films are renowned for celebrating the talents and stories of women. LUNAFEST's films have won industry awards and audience accolades, and the films selected for 2008-09 LUNAFEST share this brilliance. From quirky animation to touching documentaries, the 10 selected films are incredibly diverse in both style and subject matter, united by a common thread of exceptional storytelling by...for...about women.

Agencies are mailed a product's list monthly and they are able to call the food hotline for updates. The Bank is currently working on internet access to yjr products list. An order is placed with the Bank which is pulled from the warehouse floor and is pulled together for pickup, drop off, or delivery. A small shared maintenance fee (18 cents/pound) is charged to help cover cost of transportation, staffing, handling and warehousing, although last year approximately 50% of our product was distributed at no cost to agencies, as we are doing this year.

The Mobile Food Pantry will serve area residents that struggle to make ends meet that are in need of emergency food assistance.
